Spiralling Within

Absolut Theatre Company presents Spiraling Within, a bold, touching one-woman multi-media show that combines dance, movement and dark humour to explore mental illness, disability, and examine the system from the inside out.

The show follows Kayla as she “pops” her pills of choice and trips through bus rides, raves and psych wards. The play explores depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorder, psychosis, disability and the way in which these disorders are dealt with by society, families and individuals. As Kayla attempts to self-medicate with rave and street drugs, her psychosis spirals out of control... Adapted from the critically acclaimed Who Are You Calling Crazy!?!, Spiralling Within guarantees to educate and entertain both youth and adults alike.

Absolut Theatre Company

Siobhan McCarthy is the Founder and Artistic Director of the absolut theatre company. She originally hails from Toronto where she trained, competed and toured as a National Precision Figure Skater for over half her life. She then lived in Europe before “heading west” and graduating with her Honours Degree in Theatre from U.B.C. in the fall of 1998. Past Directing credits include: Spiraling Within, Happy Meal, See Bob Run, A Soldier’s Tale, Drunken Bliss!?! Macbeth, Romeo & Juliet, The Comedy of Errors and the award winning Bold Girls. Equity Co-Op’s include W.O.W-wow!!!, and Who Are You Calling Crazy!?! Siobhan also loves to perform. Some acting film and television credits include Animal Miracles, F-Stop, Still Life, A Bug and a Bag of Weed, Last Wedding, Drunken Bliss, and The Sound of Empties.
