Tyler was born prematurely, 2 lbs 10 ounces. Diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at 15 months, his prognosis was dim. Doctors doubted he would ever walk or talk. He endured 9 surgeries and saw countless therapists. Acquiring speech took 5 years. Tyler was one of the first disabled students to be integrated into the regular school system. In lieu of a foreign language, he enrolled in Drama, and found his calling. As a teenager he performed with Theatre Terrific, and then did background work in locally produced films. In 1997 he began doing stand-up. Although it is important to note that Tyler is introduced on stage as an actor and a comedian, not as a “Disabled Comedian”, Tyler makes no qualms about looking at the lighter side of his own disability. He also does public speaking engagements on behalf of the Children’s Centre for Ability and the United Way.
