SEPTEMBER 11: Due to an injury, Max Fomitchev will not be performing at the kickstART2 Festival.
Max Fomitchev has been performing since age 13 in his birthplace of Moscow. A talented mime artist, Max was often the only deaf performer in his classes and competitions. He earned his MFA in Drama, graduating top of his class. A tour took him to Deaf Way in Washington, DC in 1989, and an empowering experience changed Max forever. Fleeing the growing anti-Semitism in Russia, he came to Vancouver in 1992. Today he has a family here, work in TV and film, live comedy, festivals, schools, while teaching workshops in mime and drama. At the Opening Ceremony he will perform an excerpt from Rainman in which Max uses prop manipulation and physical comedy to unravel the journey of an unlucky but comical character who struggles with challenges of being on the outside of mainstream society looking in. During the festival he will present a new work based on his life story.
