“ Vicious, cynical, irreverent, these girls are a breath of fresh air... they leave no stone unturned in their search for topics to poke at and pretensions to puncture and they pull it off with professionalism and biting wit.” Disability Arts in London magazine
Nasty Girls
Nasty Girls was formed when frustated, bitter and cynical disabled/Deaf women got together to take the piss out of anything that annoyed them. Liz Carr, Anne Cunnigham and Natatlie Markham devise, write and perform their own material, with performances incorporating digital media and spoken English and British Sign Language.
Since their first performance, at Liverpool’s DADA Fest in December 2001, Nasty Girls has developed a reputation across the disability arts movement for devising and performing irreverent and biting dangerous comedy, but has also demonstrated popular appeal across mainstream audiences.
They have performed extensively in the UK including Commonwealth Games 2002 Festival Live event, Edinburgh Fringe 2003, Xposure Festival 2003, “Above and Beyond”, International Disability Arts Festival 2003, and Liverpool and London Comedy Festivals in 2004. Nasty Girls has featured in Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour (2003) and the Radio 4 Programme “Should we be Laughging” (Feb 2004). In December 2003 they won the DADA (Disability and Deaf Arts) Award for Best Touring Company.
