kickstART2 volunteer application

All events take place at the Roundhouse Community Centre, Vancouver BC. To download this page to fill in, follow links on the right. You can send the completed form by email as an attachment or included in the body of your email message. You can fax it in or mail it. Give us a call if you have any questions (604) 685-3368.

Welcome to kickstART2, Canada's first and only international festival of disability culture. And thanks very much for your interest in volunteering. As a volunteer for this unique event you are ensuring that this and future KickstART festivals will continue to be part of Vancouver's cultural landscape. We are very happy to enjoy the support of people like you who are dedicated to keeping us here.

KickstART2 takes place from Thursday, September 16th to Sunday, September 19th, 2004. As a volunteer you will be providing valuable support to our artists, guests and staff. We simply could not do it without you!

As a volunteer you will be required to work a minimum of 8 hours over the course of the festival. In exchange you'll receive a pass to the festival that, space permitting, will give you access to any workshops or performances you'd like. We ask that all volunteers arrive 15 minutes before their shift start time to check in and get oriented for the tasks ahead.

All volunteers are required to attend Team Meetings, about which volunteers are informed when they are contacted to confirm their placement on a team. Thanks again for your support, see you in September!

KICKSTART2 VOLUNTEER TEAMS

BOX OFFICE & MERCHANDISING
This Committee will handle on-site sales of tickets, kickstART2 items, and artists' CDs, books or cards etc. If you like people and have some experience in sales, on a cash register or customer service, this is the team for you.

COMMUNICATIONS
Members of this team are responsible for helping our patrons figure out what's going on, where they're going, and how to get there. You'll act as our meeters and greeters and will be the "face" of the festival. if you're outgoing, like meeting new people and enjoy customer service, this is the team for you!

CREW & SESSION MONITORS
Volunteers on this committee should have a basic knowledge of stage and performance requirements; familiarity with sound equipment, microphones and other audio equipment. would be an asset. Monitors will ensure that equipment for symposium sessions is set up. You'll also work closely with presenters to ensure their needs are met.

FRONT OF HOUSE / USHERS
This team will take tickets, manage line-ups and help to seat audiences. You'll be on the front lines, making sure our guests are comfortable and well taken care of both inside and outside the performance space.

HOSPITALITY
This committee will help make the performers' and volunteers' experiences as pleasant as possible by running the performers' and volunteers' lounges. You'll also help to keep the festival site a beautiful and clean place. Volunteers will help prepare food, keep the snack table stocked and other duties that may arise. A Food Safe certificate would be an asset.

If you'd like to enjoy the weekend without interruption, consider signing up to help with post-fest clean up.

MEDICAL
The medical committee is mainly a group of health professionals who will be on-call to take care of any medical issues that may arise. Volunteers with basic or industrial first aid training would also be an asset, but may not necessarily be placed on this team.

SECURITY & LOCK UP
This committee is responsible for check-in and storage of performers' equipment and personal items; the check-in and storage of volunteers' personal items; and the sign-in and sign-out of radios and cellular phones.

SITE DRESSING, SET-UP & TAKE-DOWN
This crew will help to give the kickstART site a beautiful place to be by decorating the site, setting up displays and signage, and taking them away again. Exercise your artistic side with the rest of the dynamic folks on this team.

TRANSPORTATION
This group looks after delivering people and things to the event site and then taking them away. It’s a great way to meet presenters and guests while getting out and about throughout the weekend. Wheelchair accessible van drivers will need a Class 4 license. For other deliveries, your own car is a plus; you will be reimbursed for mileage. The Transportation Committee will also be responsible for the operation of a shuttle service for performers and guests between their accommodations and the site. There may be airport runs or emergency pick-ups involved.

WILDCARD POOL
The Wildcards are a group of volunteers who work together with Administration to fill gaps, and take care of odd jobs, errands and any unforeseen tasks that must be dealt with. This committee requires people who are flexible, cheerful, and willing to do something new at the drop of a hat.
