kickstART2 Volunteers

During these strange times, when we all seem to find our bank accounts shrinking, our debts growing and our spare time is shortened, we are proud to acknowledge the work of the many volunteers who have chosen to give their precious time to make kickstART2 a reality.

These people do not ask for accolades nor do they expect compensation. They are simply community-minded, arts-loving people who wanted to be part of something larger than themselves. The work of our volunteers before, during and after the festival will touch each and every audience member and performer at kickstART2, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being there.

Volunteers are still needed for a few teams. If you're able to volunteer 8 hours (2 shifts), we'll give you a Festival Pass, a t-shirt and full access to the Volunteer Centre for snacks. Contact the S4DAC office at 604-685-3368 for help in filling out the Application Form. You can download the Volunteer Application form for Word (.doc), Volunteer Application for Mac TextEdit (.rtf) or Volunteer Application as a PDF (to complete manually.)

Big thanks to our Volunteer Team Leaders

Banner and Pennant Team Report (June 17, 2004)

Once again the Roundhouse will be decorated with beautiful pennants and banners, creating a very festive atmosphere at the kickstART2 Festival. Back because they are so absolutely magnificent are the two 30 foot banners, "These Boots are Made for Walking" and "Big Wheels Keep on Turning". They were designed in 2001 by Erin Brady Worsham, and painted by the Art Studio at GF Strong and the Coquitlam Community Ventures Society.

In addition, we will have three new ten foot title banners bearing the word "kickstART2" and about 200 brightly coloured pennants decorated by people with disabilities around British Columbia.

Thanks for sewing to Lenny Gagnon, Nancy McMurchy, Ken Lau of Eric Hamber Secondary School, and the students of Lord Byng and Britannia Secondary Schools.

Thanks for the painting and decorating of the banners, so far, go to False Creek Residence, students at Lord Byng Secondary, Point Grey Secondary and Nelson Elementary Schools in Vancouver, and elementary students at the Provincial School for the Deaf in Burnaby. We also thank the artists at Sunny Hill Health Centre and GF Strong Rehab Centre, the Cranberry Art Collective in Powell River and the Garth Homer Society in Victoria, as well as artists in Mission and Westbank.

Free Banner Workshops (August 25, 29)

Two free workshops will be held Wednesday August 25, 7-9 pm and Sunday August 29 from 2-4 pm, for people with disabilities and friends to decorate the last of the banners and pennants. All materials will be supplied. Workshops will be held at the Roundhouse Community Centre. Please phone Shannon at the S4DAC office at 604-685-3368 to register.
