Self
Portrait
acrylic and mixed media
I moved to a Downtown location from the Eastside several years ago. The West End peninsula is bordered by sea on two sides and a lake on the third. These distinct areas have seeped into my perceptions and I am starting to use this resource in my images. I feel there is a wealth to be researched and developed, which is very exciting.
Self Portrait
From the finding of the Hat and the experience of wearing it to three
family weddings are memorable Sagas in my life. It was a natural theme
for my self portrait.
The painting has been exhibited before in the Pendulum Gallery and at the Roundhouse
Community Centre as part of kickstART! in 2001.
Three Fish in a Dish
The mackerel have associations with my past, and this painting relates
to those memories integrating the past and the present into a new suspended time.
There are links to the sea in both.
To See and Not to Sea
The Window has long been a theme in my imagination. The revelation
of inside and outside, boundaries, transparency, etc. are again held together
in suspended time.
