Bill Beaulieu

Artist Statement

Bill joined the ArtWorks Program in August 2002 and is a hard working artist with an amazing focus. Bill's family states since he has joined the ArtWorks Program, " Bill has learned to think more creatively and we have seen a new found self-confidence which assists him in every day living."

Bill interprets a vast array of media images such as characters out of his favourite movies as well as traditional subjects i.e., landscape, still life and portraits. He draws and paints images with an intense whimsical style using strong clear colours and descriptive lines.

Despite Bill's physical and mental disability, he expresses his ideas and interests with confidence through his artmaking. During the Moss Street Paint-In, crowds were captivated with Bill's intense focus on painting. Bill 's determination to create and exhibit his work breaks down stereotypes about who can be an artist in our society. Bill's positive attitude, ready smile and creative spirit are the foundation of his artistic practice.
