I have a background in commercial art, so I am learning an expression of
my art. I am diagnosed schizophrenic so I have a challenge in living my life.
Still I believe inspiration comes with challenges and I use my art as a therapy
of sorts.
I am primarily interested in surrealism and also German expressionism. With my linocuts I like to see the image as a sort of talisman or emblem. I’ve taken course in printmaking and am comfortable in the process. As Pablo Neruda said “I do not separate politics from art.” I hope to be successful in my point of view as “outsider” artist and continue to work through pain and challenges in the process.
Bruce took commercial art in high school. He is now 41 years old and on
medication for schizophrenia. He has been working at Gallery Gachet (an artists
cooperative) for 5 years now. He has had three group shows and his first
solo show in March of this year, and a print shown at the National Gallery
in Ottawa this May. He will have a solo show in October 2004. Bruce is looking
forward to a career in art as well as creative writing.
